What's New in e-Permit

New as of March 27, 2009
"Online Extra Trip Payment" is a new service offered by LADBS to provide customers the capability to pay extra inspection trip fees via the e-Permit system. A customer, with a valid e-Permit user account, can pay extra trip fees online for any permit type (building, electrical, or mechanical). At the end of each completed transaction, the application e-mails a confirmation receipt to the user's e-mail address on-file.
Note: Payment of the extra trip fees online does not authorize any additional work, or, extend the expiration date of the permit.

  • Elevator and Pressure Vessel

  • Elevator and Pressure Vessel no-plan check Express Permits can now be obtained by the properly licensed contractors via the e-Permit System.

  • B contractors two-trade pop up confirmation message

  • B contractors obtaining Electrical, HVAC, Plumbing, or Pressure Vessel permits will be required to respond to a new confirmation dialog box that will enforce the "two unrelated trades or crafts other than framing or carpentry" requirement of the State of California Business and Professional Code Section 7057(b).

  • New Registration Password will be mailed

  • To guard against the unauthorized use of contractor license numbers, any new e-Permit customer who registers as a contractor will have a registration confirmation letter mailed to the contractor's business address on file with the Contractors State License Board. This letter will contain a password that can be used to access the system. Unfortunately, this means these new e-Permit customers must wait to receive this letter before they can use the e-Permit System to obtain Express Permit(s). To speed up this process, they can visit any LADBS branch office to obtain the password after providing proper identification that they are the holder of the contractors license or an authorized agent.

An online system is now available from the Housing Department that will determine the applicability of the "Tenant Habitability Program" approved by Ordinance No. 176,544. If the building(s) on the parcel associated with an e-Permit address contain rent controlled rental unit(s), the user will automatically be routed to the new online Housing Department system for this determination. This should result in many more permits being eligible for issuance via the LADBS e-Permit System.
