Permit and Inspection Report

General

The purpose of the Internet based Permit and Inspection Report is to allow easy access and visual display of general information from the Los Angeles Department of Building and Safety (LADBS) Plan Check and Inspection System (PCIS) and the Code Enforcement Information System (CEIS). This general information can be generated by either the address(es) or PCIS/CEIS number associated with it. PCIS is a database of plan check, permit, and new construction inspection information and was implemented in late 1996. CEIS is a database of code enforcement information and began a phased implementation that started in mid 2002. Since these systems were recently implemented, there may be significantly more information in other systems that contain LADBS records from as early as 1905 that are currently not available via the Internet. The information shown is provided for "informational purposes" only. Official copies of LADBS records from 1905 to the present can only be obtained from the LADBS Records Section in the Downtown or Van Nuys branch offices. Click here for locations and hours.

The City of Los Angeles assumes no responsibility arising from the use of this information and it is provided without a warranty of any kind, either expressed or implied. We do not recommend basing important business, legal, or real estate transactions solely on this information without receiving validation and interpretation of the information from staff at your nearest LADBS branch office. Address Search Rules

The following rules must be observed when searching for general information from PCIS and/or CEIS by address:
1.   To initiate a search by address, you must enter a "Street Number" value and a "Street Name" value. The "Street Name" is the name of the street and does not include the street suffix such as Ave, Blvd, Pl, St, etc.
2.   If you are uncertain about the spelling of the street name, or how the street name may have been entered in PCIS or CEIS, enter only the portion of the street name that you are sure of and use a wildcard character (the percentage symbol "%" - without the quotes) to substitute for the rest of the street name. You may enter less than 3 characters and/or numbers for street names that are less than 3 bytes in length, but you must enter a minimum of 3 characters and/or numbers before initiating a search that contains the wildcard character.
3.   Numbered streets contain the ordinal number abbreviation (i.e. st, nd, rd, th) as part of the street name such as 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, etc. and there is no space between the number and the ordinal number abbreviation.
4.   It is not possible to search by both an address and a PCIS or CEIS number at the same time.

PCIS/CEIS Number Search Rules

The following rules must be observed when searching for general information from PCIS or CEIS by number:
1.   For PCIS, either the 15-digit PCIS application/permit number or the 10-digit plan check/job number can be used to initiate a search. Click here for the definitions of these two numbers. To initiate a search by either of these numbers, enter the required number of digits into the field(s) provided and click the "Search" button. A search can only be initiated by either the 15-digit PCIS application/permit number or the 10-digit plan check/job number, not both or portions of both.
2.   For CEIS, the number that can be used to initiate a search is the CEIS Customer Request Number. To initiate a search by this number, enter it into the field provided and click the "Search" button.
3.   When searching by number, only one complete PCIS or CEIS number can be used and no address search criteria can be used.
